Storytime Training
Yesterday I had storytime training at the OP library. It was super fun! Lori Kanes taught us everything we needed to know about giving a successful storytime: how to pick a theme, how to read the books, finger plays and songs, and crowd control. It was super helpful. I am going to do some practice and planning, then I'm going to start doing storytimes every Wednesday at 3. It is going to be so much fun!

Update
Hey guys! This blog is long overdue for an update. So here's what's going on!
Wii Days: So far we have had 2 Wii days. Basically, what we do is invite the middle schoolers to the conference room after school to play Mario Cart on the libraries Wii. We also give prizes to the people who win the most games. It is really fun!
Card Games: Another program we have for middle schoolers is card games. We open up the second, smaller conference room and teach the kids card games. It's muy fun. I learned how to play Spoons from a fellow volunteer last week!
Storytime training: Mary, the librarian in charge of the teen volunteers, invited me to join the Storytime training on April 21st. I'll let you guys know what goes on at training.
Oh, guess what! April 21 also happens to be Mary's birthday! Don't tell her what I'm going to get her. Mary, if your reading, please stop for the next paragraph. I'll wait..........
Is she gone? Good. I'm going to give her a box of handmade cards from my web store, Artists Garden (there's a link if you want to check it out). I hope she likes it!
I'll talk to you guys later! Bye.

Another Normal Day
Hey guys!
There is not much going on, and I have not posted in a while, so here's a short little post on a general day.
We are working on straightening up the children's room, ordering the books and putting stuff back, etc.
Here are some pictures from the library and the librarians that work at the Oak Park library.

Day One
Note - I will not be doing day-to-day entries, I just thought I'd give you a run-down of a regular day.
So I went to the library right after school ended. I was in a pretty good mood, I had scored 10 goals in "super soccer" in gym class, had health, one of my favorite classes, and science, my all time favorite class. Not to mention that one of my friends volunteers at the library too!
When I got there, I first set up this blog. Honestly, don't ask me why I called it Zoomhex. I didn't want to just call it my volunteer diary or "Ashley's Volunteer Works." That's just too boring for me. Zoomhex sounds pretty catchy and I've been wanting to use the name for something for a long time.
Anyways, after I created the blog, I checked the alphabetical order on some DVD's. Then, the other volunteers filled me in on Wii Game Day which will be held on Monday, February 13th. Finally, we prepared some books for a book sale, taking stickers off, etc.
Not much, but that's generally what goes on!
Hello World
Welcome to Zoomhex, a diary for my volunteer jobs at the Oak Park branch of the Ventura Library System. Through this blog, I will relate my experiences of what it's like to volunteer at a library. I hope you will join as I give you a window into the behind-the-scenes world of a library. Who knows, maybe you'll be inspired to get up and help out at your local library!
